STEM Outreach Events

Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) outreach events are a great way to help K-12 students become interested in these fields. CRUSER sponsors STEM outreach events as well as participates in larger NPS or other community STEM outreach events.

ARSENL Logo

CRUSER has an intern program for High School and College students to work on projects in the Advanced Robotic Systems ENgineering Laboratory (ARSENL). Intern positions are available on a volunteer & paid basis.

Currently paid positions are available through the Navy Research Enterprise Internship Program (NREIP) for college students & the Science & Engineering Apprenticeship Program (SEAP) for high school students. Please consult the websites for additional details and deadlines.

  • Design, Build, and Test an underwater robot in Marine Advanced Technology Education's (MATE) pool
  • Several Unmanned Systems were on display for students to look at and discuss with researchers
  • Three local high schools brought their FIRST Robotics entries for the 2013 Competition season and demonstrated the shooting of frisbees

2nd Annual Robots in the Roses

  • Robot Rubber Ducks, balloons, and rubber bands were provided to be "designed" to float across the Roman Plunge the quickest. There was a small pool to test designs and allow for a iterative design process.
  • Several Unmanned Systems were on display for students to look at and discuss with researchers
  • Two local high schools brought their FIRST Robotics entries for the 2012 Competition season and demonstrated the mobility and basketball shooting ability of their robots.

Cub Scout Pack 125 - LEGO Mindstorm Robot Event

The cub scouts used Lego Mindstorm robots which were pre-built, but needed to be programmed to complete a series of challenges

Brownie Troop 30608 - LEGO Mindstrom Robot Event

Activity:

We provided robots that were nearly complete and the Brownies got into teams to build the mechanism to finish the robot and have it complete the tasks of going forward about 3 ft, capturing "the world," and bringing it back to "home."
