The United States Naval Academy promotes and maintains an environment in which research and scholarly activities contribute to the educational growth of midshipmen.  

Midshipmen engage in learning the basic tenets of research in many of their programs including independent research courses, honors courses, design projects.  Midshipmen are exposed to the technical needs of the Navy and they gain experience, via their investigations, in an analytic approach to problem-solving.   One avenue in which they can enrich their academic experience is to participate in an internship with an NPS faculty member.
