Entrance into the Meteorology and Physical Oceanography curriculum (373) requires an APC  of 323.  This code requires a baccalaureate degree with a GPA of 2.20 or higher, a complete calculus sequence within the past five years, and a calculus-based physics sequence, earning a B or better average in these courses.

Waivers for entry may be granted on a case by case basis for officer with an APC up to 334.  Officers seeking entrance with APC scores outside the waiverable limits may be offered an Individual Education Plan (IEP) to prepare them for admission to NPS.  This is not a refresher, it is a recommend plan to meet admissions requirements.  Per the Oceanographer of the Navy (OPNAV N2N6E) and the Commander, Navy Meteorology and Oceanography Command (COMNAVMETOCCOM), responsibility rests with the officer to ensure all entrance requirements for graduate school are met.

"Refresher" quarters may be offered to qualifying students, but this refresher does not replace the requirement for solid calculus and calculus-based physics skills.  Assignment to the refresher quarter is typically offered to those officers who, by the nature of their current duty assignment, are unable to access local education resources in preparation for commencing coursework at NPS (e.g. arduous duty assignments).
