Based on the FY-99 FY-01 Surface Warfare Officer selection board results, CSS&T sub-specialists promoted to O-6 at a 20% higher rate than average.

Now as in the past, military success depends strongly on technological superiority. Officers with a firm understanding of the fundamental physics underlying weapon and sensor systems enjoy a huge advantage throughout their career in the operation, maintenance, and acquisition of modern combat systems. The military needs and rewards its its technical leaders!

Graduating from the Combat Systems curriculum increases one's chances for promotion. Submarine officers improve their technical rating by getting a Master's degree in science or engineering.

When military officers transition to civilian life, the combination of military service and technical education is a highly valued commodity among defense contractors.
