This full-text database provides information on current and controversial issues in areas such as economic, social, political and international affairs. CQ Today (Congressional Quarterly)
 
CQ Today is daily briefing of congressional activity. It provides a wrap-up of the previous day’s entire Hill news in addition to forward-looking reports on all activity scheduled for that day. CQ Today covers floor activity, hearings, all markups and behind-the-scenes developments.



CQ Weekly (Congressional Quarterly)
 
This full-text database provides reports on significant legislation, floor action and major policy issues in Congress. Also included are: roll call votes, presidential speeches, election coverage and more. Coverage begins in 1983.

GPO Monthly Catalog (Government Printing Office)
 
Indexes many of the publications published by the Government Printing Office. When available, links to full text web documents are given. Coverage begins with July 1976.



Index Islamicus (ProQuest)
 
Index Islamicus indexes literature on Islam, the Middle East and the Muslim world including main Muslim areas of Asia and Africa, plus Muslim minorities elsewhere. It is produced by the Islamic Bibliography Unit at Cambridge University Library to transmit knowledge about Islamic and Middle East studies. Records included in the database cover almost a century of publications, with some going back to 1906. Over 2,000 journals are monitored for inclusion in the database, together with conference proceedings, monographs, multi-authored works and book reviews. Journals and books are indexed down to the article and chapter level.



Ingenta (Ingenta)
 
The Ingenta Library Gateway is a searchable database of more than 11 million citations from over 20,000 journals.

LatAm-Studies Full-text Online (International Information Services)
 

LatAm-Studies.com brings together thousands of full-text research institute reports on a multitude of business, government, economic, and social issues covering all all countries in South America, Caribbean, Central America and Mexico. The average study is 10 pages long, and contains research, analysis and forecasts. Most contain statistical tables, charts, and/or graphs.

LexisNexis offers two major databases for NPS users: LexisNexis and LexisNexis Academic. This database , Lexis.com, is part of LexisNexis, and requires a password to use, available via AskALibrarian. With the Lexis.com part of LexisNexis, users can search for federal and state case law as well as find articles from a huge variety of newspapers, news wires, congressional transcripts, TV and radio transcripts, magazines, journals, business publications and more. LexisNexis Academic (LexisNexis)
 
LexisNexis offers two major databases  for NPS users: LexisNexis and LexisNexis Academic.  This one, LexisNexis Academic is designed with a simplified search interface, uses a targeted subset of LexisNexis, and requires no special password. (NPS users of LexisNexis Academic are proxy-authenticated.) Documents come from a huge variety of newspapers, news wires, magazines, news weblogs, broadcast transcripts and more, and are provided in full-text (ASCII text only, no graphics).  If you need additional information about differences between this product and the larger LexisNexis (as well as the necessary password for LexisNexis) please Ask a Librarian.

MilitaryBalance (International Institute for Strategic Studies)
 

The Military Balance is the annual assessment of the military capabilities and defence economics of 170 countries world-wide. It contains region-by-region analysis of the major military and economic developments affecting defence and security policies and the trade in weapons and other military equipment.

OECD iLibrary (Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development)
 

OECD iLibrary is OECD’s Online Library for Books, Papers and Statistics and the gateway to OECD’s analysis and data. It contains all the publications and datasets released by OECD (Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development), Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA), OECD Development Centre, PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment), and International Transport Forum (ITF). Official Documents System of the United Nations (Official Documents System of the United Nations)
ODS covers all types of official United Nations documentation, beginning in 1993. Older UN documents are, however, added to the system on a daily basis. ODS also provides access to the resolutions of the General Assembly, Security Council, Economic and Social Council and the Trusteeship Council from 1946 onwards. The system does not contain press releases, UN sales publications, the United Nations Treaty Series or information brochures issued by the Department of Public Information.



Open Source Center (United States Government )
 
Formerly FBIS (Foreign Broadcast Information Service) Open Source Center offers an extensive, in-depth collection of translations and transcriptions of open source information monitored worldwide on such diverse topics as military affairs, politics, the environment, societal issues, economics, and science and technology. The information is obtained monitoring radio, television, press, periodicals, books and other sources of unrestricted information such as databases and gray literature.

OxResearch (ProQuest)
 
OxResearch draws on the scholarship of Oxford and other major universities and research institutions around the world to provide strategic analysis of geopolitical, macroeconomic and social developments. Each day Oxford Analytica adds seven or eight three to four page briefs analyzing and judging economic, political and social developments around the world.



PAIS International (ProQuest)
 
PAIS chronicles issues in the public debate through highly selective coverage of a wide variety of sources including journal articles, books, government documents, statistical directories, grey literature, research reports, conference papers, publications of international agencies, microfiche, Internet material and more. The database includes a historical perspective on many of the 20th century's social and public policies.

ProQuest Statistical Insight (ProQuest)
 
ProQuest Statistical provides statistics issued by the U.S. government through CIS' American Statistics Index, back to 1973 and some 1,000 of the best statistical publications of private and state government sources from 1980 forward through CIS' Statistical Reference Index.  It features approximately 2,000  titles from some 100 international intergovernmental organizations, all published annually since 1983 through CIS' Index to International Statistics.



SCOLA (SCOLA)
   

SCOLA offers television programming from around the world in native languages. SCOLA also provides other language learning content on its web site, including comprehensive courses, language lessons and  "Insta-Classes" based on audio-video content.  SCOLA's mission is "to help the people of the world learn about one another; their cultures, their languages and their ideologies. SCOLA emphasizes the importance and effectiveness of modern information technology as a tool in overcoming barriers to global understanding and will remain at the forefront of its application."  SCOLA requires a username and password, available from the library Research Assistance Desk.  




SIPRI Arms Transfer Database (SIPRI)
 Searchable online database containing information on all international transfers of seven categories of major conventional weapons from 1950 to the most recent full calendar year.



Social Sciences Citation Index (ISI Web of Knowledge)
 
Once you are into Web of Knowledge, click on Web of Science.  The Social Sciences Citation Index® in Web of Science provides access to current and retrospective bibliographic information, author abstracts, and cited references found in over 1,700 of the world's leading scholarly social sciences journals covering more than 50 disciplines. They also cover individually selected, relevant items from approximately 3,300 of the world’s leading science and technology journals. Dudley Knox Library’s subscription covers articles and papers published from 1898-present.



Staff College Automated Military Periodicals Index (SCAMPI)
Provides citations to articles on military and naval art and science, operational warfare, joint planning, national and international politics, and other areas researched by Joint Forces Staff College faculty, staff, and students.

Stratfor is one of the world's leading global intelligence firms, providing clients with geopolitical analysis and industry and country forecasts to mitigate risk and identify opportunities. The Stratfor website publishes daily intelligence briefs and in-depth analysis.



Web of Knowledge (Web of Knowledge)
 
The website includes access to Web of Science (Science Citation Index 1956-present, Social Sciences Citation Index 1898-present, Conference Proceedings Citation Index - Science 1991-present, and Conference Proceedings Citation Index - Social Science & Humanities 1991-present) , Medline 1950-present, and Journal Citation Reports 2006-2010. It provides citation and tracking information on current and retrospective research and a current awareness tool. Cited references [footnotes and bibliographies] for all articles are captured and indexed, allowing tracing of the references and citation analysis. Includes access to some full-text articles.



WorldCat (OCLC)
 
With WorldCat (the OCLC Online Union Catalog) you can simultaneously search the catalogs of over 9000 libraries worldwide. WorldCat contains more than 50 million records in over 400 languages.



World Christian Database (BRILL)
 

The World Christian Database (WCD) is based on the 2600-page award-winning World Christian Encyclopedia and World Christian Trends, first published in 1982 and revised in 2001. This extensive work on World religion is now completely updated and integrated into the WCD online database. Designed for both the casual user and research scholar, information is readily available on religious activities, growth rates, religious literature, worker activity, and demographic statistics. Additional secular data is incorporated on population, health, education, and communications.

World Religion Database (BRILL)
 

The World Religion Database (WRD) contains detailed statistics on religious affiliation for every country of the world. Worldwide Political Science Abstracts (ProQuest)
 
Worldwide Political Science Abstracts is building on the merged backfiles of Political Science Abstracts, published by IFI / Plenum, 1975-2000, and ABC POL SCI, published by ABC-CLIO, 1984-2000.
