Boeing compiles a statistical summary of commercial jet airplane accidents worldwide operations from 1959-.

Bureau of Transportation Statistics
The Bureau offers historical air carrier traffic statistics, airline on-time performance data, and a link to the air travel yearly consumer reports.

Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)
Accident and incident data which includes a searchable accident database and synopsis handled by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) consisting of information from 1962 and later about civil aviation accidents and selected incidents within the United States, its territories and possessions, and in international waters.

NASA lists their collection of space shuttle facts and statistics on their website which includes flights by orbiter, number of night launches and landings, extended missions and much more.


American Public Transportation Association
APTA provides data about U.S. public railway transportation including energy consumption data, operating expenses, and accessibility data.

Association of American Railroads
AAR maintains a website that provides railroad industry statistics such as: rail cost indexes, performance measurements and other railroad statistics including operating revenue and expense.

Bureau of Transportation Statistics
The U.S. Dept. of Transportation gathers and analysis data for various railroad related topics.

Federal Railroad Administration
The Office of Safety Analysis collects and maintains railroad safety data which includes accidents, incidents, inspections and highway rail crossing data.

Roads & Motor Vehicle

American Public Transportation Association
APTA collects a variety of current and historic information pertaining to vehicle use in its Public Transportation Fact book available in electronic format from its website.

Bureau of Transportation Statistics
The U.S. Department of Transportation provides links to a variety of highway related statistics including border crossing information, The American Travel Survey, and data from the Fatality Analysis Reporting System.

National Transportation Statistics
NTS provides data collected about the U.S. transportation system which includes its physical components, safety records, economic performance and national security issues related to roads and other infrastructure.

U.S Department of Transportation - Federal Highway Administration
This highway statistics series consists of annual reports containing analyzed statistical data on motor fuel; motor vehicles; driver licensing; highway-user taxation; State and local government highway finance; highway mileage, and Federal aid for highways.


AASHTO Freight Transportation
“America’s Freight Transportation Gateways – Connecting our Nation to Places and Markets Abroad”, created by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, as well as many other waterway freight reports and studies can be accessed through this website.

Bureau of Transportation Statistics
The U.S. Department of Transportation maintains a list of links to a variety of maritime statistics including data on vessel entries and departures at major U.S. ports, The Marine Casualty and Pollution Database and data on reported recreational boating accidents.

U.S. Department of Transportation – Maritime Administration
The Maritime Administration compiles fleet, cruise, trade, and vessel port call statistics.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
The Waterborne Commerce Statistics Center (WCSC) collects, processes, distributes, and archives vessel trip and cargo data which is available from their website. Data is available regarding waterborne container traffic and tonnage for U.S. ports and all 50 States.

United States Coast Guard
The USCG compiles U.S. boating accident and search and rescue statistics.

Check out The University of Michigan Documents Center which provides numerous links to a variety of transportation statistic resources currently available on the web. You will find links to data collected about air, motor vehicle, pedestrians, roads, bridges and ship transportation.
