The Dudley Knox Library’s Special Collections and Archives houses archival materials with a focus on Naval Postgraduate School and Hotel Del Monte history, as well as rare books on naval and military history. Due to the unique and often fragile nature of these materials, the items in Special Collections and Archives are located in closed stacks and may only be used with assistance from Library staff. See our guide to Searching for Special Collections and Archives Materials. NPS documents in digital format, including NPS graduate theses, may be found by using Calhoun, the NPS Institutional Archive. The Special Collections and Archives Reading Room has regular service hours from 9 am – 12 noon on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. During those hours, we can accommodate walk-in visitors; however, because of the time required to gather materials for use, researchers are encouraged to make an appointment in advance if possible, so that materials can be prepared before their arrival. An appointment is required in order to accommodate researchers outside of regular service hours. Researchers who are not affiliated with the Naval Postgraduate School should schedule appointments at least two days in advance in order to coordinate campus access. Please contact us with any questions, or fill out the online registration form below to set up an appointment.
