Professional Military Education (PME)
The Marine Corps College of Distance Education offers both Expeditionary Warfare School (EWS) and Command and Staff College (CSC) classes aboard NPS. The Marine Corps PME classes are offered one evening/week at NPS. Classes usually meet at 1700 for approximately 90 minutes and may be completed in 6 NPS quarters. For example, Officers starting these programs in January 2013 will be complete by May 2014. Officers who will depart NPS/DLI prior to May 2014 may be supported in CSC by "doubling-up" for some courses. This may allow completion of the program in 4 NPS quarters. These types of requests will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
As Marine Officers well understand:
- EWS is the Career Level PME required of CWO2's/CWO3's/1stLt's/Captains.
- CSC is the Intermediate Level PME required of Senior CWO4's /Majors/Captains who are Career Level School complete (EWS) may enroll and complete CSC. The CSC is accredited for Joint PME Phase 1 (JPME1); completion prior to graduation from NPS will validate the SECNAV requirement for taking NW3203 Strategy and War. Most of our NPS CSC sections include international Officers who bring a tremendous set of experiences and backgrounds to the class and discussions.
