Naval War College Monterey Honors Top JPME Graduates

Naval War College (NWC) Monterey students earning academic honors during the first quarter of Academic Year 2018 are pictured following a brief ceremony in their honor near the Naval War College Monterey Program offices in Halligan Hall, Feb. 13. Professor Fred Drake, Chairman of the NWC Monterey program, presided over the ceremony for those in attendance.
“The purpose of today is to recognize you for the excellence you have achieved in your education,” said Drake. “Each one of you has demonstrated outstanding performance in our class whether in strategy or JMO, and we really appreciate that. One of the three pillars of our educational process is what you as the students bring to the classroom. Your performance in the classroom has been instrumental in improving our faculty’s understanding of what is going on in the field as well as improving the understanding of your colleagues going through the course.”
Graduates earning “with Highest Distinction” honors by completing the JPME program in the top five percent of their class are Marine Corps Maj. Paul Bailey and Marine Corps Capt. Michael Kristek, Army Maj. Isaac Johnson, Army Capt. Jonathan Stewart, and Lt. Cmdr. John McCray.
Graduates earning “with Distinction” honors by completing the JPME program in the top 15 percent of their class are Lt. Devon Cartwright, Lt. Matthew Conners, Lt. Cmdr. Jeffrey Frost, Lt. Cmdr. Thomas Radich III, Lt. Cmdr. Peter Riester, Lt. Cmdr. Robert Sellin, Lt. Cmdr. Sean Sunday, Lt. Cmdr. Ryan Wadington, Lt. Cmdr. Brandon Winters, Army Maj. Michael Ferriter, Army Maj. Curtis Knie, Army Maj. Phillip Schupp, Army Capt. Robert Tuttle, Coast Guard Lt. Cmdr. Jacob London, and Marine Corps Capt. Timothy McPeak.
“It was a fantastic experience being Army and special operations here, I got to experience the joint culture,” said Tuttle. “The joint community here has been great, learning with and from my peers by really delving into the joint atmosphere that we will see on the battlefield after graduating from NPS.”
Through the NPS-NWC partnership, a total of 4,847 officers have earned their Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) Phase I certification since the program’s inception in September 1999.
