"The Navy has a requirement to audit the top 75 percent of energy users every four years. This year, Navy region Southwest has six bases that will receive an energy audit.
 
"We are auditing more then 30 buildings, which cover 1.5 million square feet. We are looking at heating, cooling, temperature settings, lighting fixtures, and water," said Energy Audit Project Manager Katherine Lindler.
 
Once the audit team completes its survey, they will provide a report to the base with low, middle and high level recommendations to be implemented dependent on base funding.
 
"There seems to be base awareness for energy savings," said Lindler who noted that it's often the little thing that lead to the success of a base energy conservation plan.
 
"Turning off your lights and monitors may not seem like much, but every little bit counts," she said while noting the conservation challenges posed by the many historic buildings found at NSAM.
