Flight Evaluation of an 'aPNT Service' for UxS GPS-Denied Operations

Mark Karpenko

Problem Statement

This project is a collaborative effort between NPS (MAE and SSAG), Trust Point Inc., Platform Aerospace, and Naval Research Laboratory. Requested CRUSER funding for this project is $150k. Cost-sharing will be incorporated by leveraging NPS' involvement in GUIDER program for UAV ‘ridesharing’. The goal of this project is to advance the technology readiness level of a new solution for on-board alternate position, navigation, and timing (aPNT) to support unmanned aerial vehicles in GPS denied environments.

We intend to design and interface an aPNT payload (TrustPoint/NPS) for a representative UAV platform (Platform’s Vanilla). We also plan to develop a concept for streaming aPNT data directly from the on-board payload to the UAV for ‘denied’ navigation.

This project is in line with CRUSER’s research theme on coordination of command/control operation in GPS denied areas.
