The Oil Industry: Energy for the 21st Century

May 1, 2015
ME Lecture Hall

Mr. Leo Paulo

Aera Energy LLC

Modern society is heavily dependent on energy, but as demand grows, providing an adequate supply is ever more challenging. In the 20th century, oil was the strategic commodity, in large part because of the phenomenal success of the oil industry in delivering petroleum to market. Its role is changing in the 21st century, but it is still an indispensable component of the energy portfolio.

Mr. Paulo graduated from the Military Academy at West Point. He has earned a Master of Business Administration from California State University, Bakersfield, and a Masters degree in Systems Engineering from Arizona State Uuniversity. He served in Armor, Aviation and Special Forces assignments during his Army career, and also completed a joint assignment with the USN Seventh Fleet. Since retiring from the Army, he has spent more than eighteen years in the oil industry. Mr. Paulo spent brief stints with well service and oilfield construction companies, and over sixteen years in the exploration and production business. His specialty is onshore field operations in California. He presently lives with his family in Ventura County, CA.
