The PMBA (DL) is a defense-focused management curriculum with a flexible design. This graduate degree education program provides sponsoring agencies and students the ability to achieve their particular professional goals by selecting a combination of courses/certificates that meet their specific needs. The PMBA (DL) may be completed by stacking several graduate-level certificates together and completing a capstone project or by completing a selection of a-la-carte courses and a capstone project. This customizable, part-time distance learning program can be completed in up to 60 months.

Admissions Criteria/Eligibility

Open to active-duty Naval officers, active-duty officers from other branches of the United States Armed Forces, federal agency civilian employees, international students, and defense contractors.

Candidates for the PMBA (DL) must have achieved the following:

  • A baccalaureate degree with a minimum GPA of 2.2 on a four-point scale from a regionally accredited college or university
  • Completion of at least two semesters of college algebra or trigonometry is the minimum mathematical preparation
  • An APC of 345
  • International students should refer to the NPS Admissions section for International Applicants ( for current TOEFL and entrance requirements

Program Length

The PMBA (DL) can be completed in up to 60 months from the start of the program.

Delivery Mode

Web-based technologies; GSDM is currently using Zoom.

Application Deadlines and Entry Dates

Entry dates are September, January, April, and July of each academic year.

Application deadlines:

  • 6 July 2021 to start September 2021
  • 27 September 2021 to start January 2022
  • 3 January 2022 to start April 2022
  • 8 March 2022 to start July 2022

PMBA (DL) Degree Requirements

Degree requirements (courses/certificates) can be taken in an order determined by the student or sponsoring agency, subject to prerequisites. The program requirements are:

  • 48 credit hours of graduate-level courses, at least 16 of which are at the 4000 level, and at least 50% are GSDM courses.
  • A minimum of nine GSDM courses (excluding capstone courses) with at least one course from each of the following curricular areas:
  1. Acquisition Management
  2. Financial Management
  3. Manpower and Economics
  4. Operations and Logistics
  5. Management
  • Completion of an acceptable thesis, project, or capstone course sequence.
  • Complete the program in a maximum of 60 months.


Active-duty Naval officers are mission funded by the Navy and are not required to pay tuition but incur a continued service obligation. All other students must be funded by their sponsoring commands at a cost of $2,500 per course.
