Prof. Adam Pease (CS) and Prof. Pante Stănică (Applied Math) participated in the first edition of Converge 2026 at NPS, where they presented their work on Ontology for Trusted Neuro-Symbolic Systems. The project uses formal logic, automated reasoning, and the Suggested Upper Merged Ontology (SUMO) to create computable definitions that can identify inconsistencies in data and support trusted, explainable AI. Potential applications include autonomous systems, simulation and equipment-data integration, cyber planning, language-to-logic translation, and the formal description of cryptographic primitives and protocols. The presentation also highlighted opportunities for research partnerships, prototyping, data sharing, education, and student involvement.
