The Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) will host the Naval Research Working Group (NRWG) 18 April 10-12, 2018 aboard the Monterey campus. This activity is an essential element in the success of the NPS Naval Research Program, as envisioned by the Secretary of the Navy. It serves as a forum for Navy and Marine organizations to communicate, review, validate, and recommend topics for NPS research in FY19. SECNAVINST 1524.2C dtd 21 OCT 2014 identifies that, “an active academic research program is vital to the quality of education provided to students, the attraction and retention of exceptional faculty members, and the provision of real-time, directly relevant deliverables to government sponsors.”

This is an excellent annual opportunity for the Navy and Marine Corps to effectively leverage NPS faculty expertise and student operational experience as valuable research assets. All faculty and students are invited and encouraged to participate.

During the main event Topic Sponsor Representatives will be assigned a tradeshow booth in the NPS McNitt Ballroom where they will be able to discuss research opportunities, the benefit(s) to the Services, and expected deliverables from the research. NPS faculty and students are invited to meet with sponsors during the tradeshow and\or to schedule a Breakout Session to discuss topics and begin scoping research to form an Initial Research Estimate Form (IREF) for topics they wish to research. Revolving Panel Sessions will provide Topic Sponsors additional opportunities to present research topics in small groups to those interested. NPS faculty will host a selection of NPS Lab Tours and participate in a Faculty Research Poster Session and Social to provide sponsors a better understanding of the wide range of research capabilities at NPS.

Topic Sponsor Representatives must register and coordinate Topic Portal research submissions with their Topic Sponsor Lead no later than 21 March 2018 in order to be included in the NRWG 18 program. (Note: New topics may still be entered until 20 April 2017 for consideration in the FY19 funding cycle, but they will not appear in NRWG 18 print materials.)

Please review the NRWG 18 Agenda for detailed NRWG 18 event information.
