James Adams joined the JMO faculty in 2019 after retiring with over 29 years of service in the United States Army as an Armor officer. After retirement, James worked with the Bureau of Diplomatic Security, U.S. Department of State for 4 years. Key assignments include Deputy Brigade Commander, 2nd Brigade, 3rdInfantry Division during Operation Iraqi Freedom; Commander, 3rdSquadron, 16th Cavalry Regiment; Brigade Executive Officer, 1st Brigade, 1st Armored Division; and Strategic Planner in the Office of the Chief of Staff, Headquarters Department of the Army.

Key awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal (5th award), Kosovo Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, the NATO Medal, and the Army Staff Badge.

James received a B.S. degree in Business Administration from the University of Tennessee, Martin and a M.S. degree in National Security Strategy from the National War College in Washington, D.C. He is also a resident graduate of the United States Army Command and General Staff College.
