The use of writing as a tool to teach and evaluate student learning in PME is under threat with the advent of generative AI. Even as we and our students learn to benefit from AI tools, we must ensure that we minimize incentives for its misuse that sidestep essential learning. This workshop focuses on some of the initial preventative steps you can implement to preserve the role of authentic writing and thinking in the learning process. Participants evaluate writing samples to distinguish between human and AI writing and learn tips for creating writing assignments that can reduce unauthorized AI use.
