Dr. Kevin B. Smith
Vice Provost for Research and Innovation (OR&I)
Professor Kevin Smith received a B.A. in physics from Rollins College in 1986, an M.S. in physics from Yale University in 1988, and a Ph.D. in Applied Marine Physics from the University of Miami in 1991. He accepted a faculty position in the Department of Physics at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) in 1995. From 2005-2008, he worked as a visiting faculty member in the Sensors and SONAR Systems Dept at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Newport, RI.

Dr. Alan Van Nevel
Associate Provost for Research / Director, Research Operations & Program Support Office (ROPSO)
Dr. Alan Van Nevel is the associate provost for research for the Naval Postgraduate School. In this role he assists with the administration of research activities at NPS, with the goal of accelerating the development of new technology to impact warfare concepts and capabilities.

Kaitie Penry
Director, Emerging Technology and Innovation Office (ETIO)
Kaitie Penry is the inaugural Director of Research Innovation at the Naval Postgraduate School. In this role, she oversees the development of NPS’ enterprise innovation process and prototyping portfolio, supporting the Secretary of the Navy’s initiative to establish the Naval Innovation Center at NPS.
