IAS Policy and Ethics Effort

Overarching Goals

  • Fully inform the Department of Defense's (DoD's) ethical and policy positions and way forward concerning Intelligent Autonomous Systems (IAS).
  • Equip members of the DoD enterprise to appropriately engage in the conversation, as necessary.
  • Address misconceptions across the DoD which impede progress.

Desired Outcomes

  • Recommendations for clarifications, modifications, or elaborations to relevant DoD policies and/or ethical principles, as needed.
  • Application of applicable existing guiding and ethical principles to IAS and identifications of gaps; development of recommendations to address these gaps specific to IAS.
  • A narrative by which members of the DoD enterprise can engage in the IAS policy and ethics discussions (internally & externally), as required.

March TEM

  • Engender awareness of the ongoing community work, projects, and efforts in this area.
  • Expose the DoD community to non-DoD perspectives, uses, challenges, etc.
