Intern Opportunities

Faculty research projects provide invaluable exposure to possible naval careers through hands-on learning for veteran, service academy, high school, community college, university, and graduate students. Research-based student internships are offered through the Office of Naval Research, education partnerships with local colleges and universities, and an in-house Student Volunteer Program.

Learn
High School

NPS hosts high school student interns through the Office of Naval Research's Science and Engineering Apprenticeship Program (SEAP) and a Student Volunteer Program.

Innovate
College and Graduate Students

NPS hosts several college internship programs, including the Office of Naval Research's Naval Research Enterprise Internship Program (NREIP); educational partnerships with Monterey Peninsula College, Hartnell College, and California State University Monterey Bay (CSUMB); and a Student Volunteer Program.

Connect
Service Academies
NPS has supported the U.S. military undergraduate service academies through a broad range of internship opportunities over the past several years. Through DTRA NSERC, NPS have brought interns from all service academies and some ROTC programs consistently over the last 10+ years. We have also had interns from USNA in past summers support the ONR Directed Energy projects, through collaboration between NPS and USNA faculty. In addition, the NPS Physics Departments hosts students for these programs.

Lead
Veterans

NPS hosts veteran interns in STEM fields, usually on the GI Bill, through the VNC (Veterans to Naval Careers) program. Some have gone on to work in the US Navy and others have joined industry. In either case, we are proud to support them.
