Frequently Asked Questions

Students who have operational or other professional commitments that require them to miss graduation, should route a "Dean of Students Request Form” to the Dean of Students (DOS) office.

Students requesting to stay at NPS greater than seven (7) days after their scheduled graduation date or requesting to change their PRD should route a "Dean of Students Request Form" to the Dean of Students (DOS) office via the Program Officer.

Service Record Full Length Photos: are provided every Tuesday 0900-1200 and 1300-1500 by appointment only. To schedule appointment e-mail:

The photo sessions take 20 minutes. You will be provided two copies of a completed NAVPERS 1070/884 (04-07) form. The service member will deliver one signed copy to the Student Services Office to be mailed to Naval Personnel Command, PERS 312C. 

NOTE: Marine Corps officers must present their Command Height/ Weight Verification Form when they arrive at the studio. Photos are submitted to MMSB by the Senior Marine Corps Representative’s staff.

Every Wednesday from 0900-1200 biography portrait services will be provided however this service is limited for 06 and above, NPS civilian and military faculty, students being recognized for academic achievements such as the Conrad Scholar Award, and those in a NPS leadership position.

OTHER PHOTOGRAPHIC SERVICES: Portraits for embassy and attaché duty are also provided for all US military students.

Department of the Army (DA) Service Record Photos: are taken at the Defense Language Institute, Presidio of Monterey.  Call Sal at 831.242.5249 for appointments. Be prepared to provide two dates and times for your requested appointment when leaving a message. Before arriving for your studio appointment ensure the following:

  • Please arrive in uniform
  • Hair within regulations
  • Ribbons in correct order
  • Shoes polished including wells

Incoming students are not authorized to report before the "no earlier than date" on their orders. Navy orders have this date listed on page 2/3.

Navy- Upon release of the promotion message (NAVADMIN XXX/YY), the Dean of Students Office will draft the promotion paperwork.  You will be contacted, via email, when the paperwork is preparded for your signature.  Promotees are resposible for planning and scheduling their promotion ceremonies, mass promotions are not conducted at NPS. 

All Other Services- Promotions are handled by the respective service reps and the adminstrative chain of command.
