Session 1: Value of Trusted Partnerships in the Era of COVID-19

Ambassador Deborah Malac and Dr. W. Abdullah Brooks presentations on day 1 captivated the audience members with their personal accounts on the value of trusted partnerships in a public health crisis. The range of discussions from the 2014 Ebola outbreak in Africa to broader global humanitarian efforts resulted in continued questions to the distinguished panel of experts after the session. Ambassador Malac touched on a number of lessons learned as the senior US representative overseas working with US and foreign militaries, NGOs and the challenges of capturing accurate data on the crisis towards success. Dr Brooks shared his global experience and walked us through his “Baskets of Opportunity” to highlight what leaders must take into account as priorities in todays’ COVID pandemic and for the next global health crisis.
