The Maritime Gray Zone Research Task Force (MGZ RTF)

The Naval Postgraduate School’s MGZ RTF was reestablished in early 2023 with the support from CCHT lead team. The RTF's re-establishment will continue increased collaboration of faculty and students on pertinent topics and include conversations with respective Navy / Marine Corps Staff Sections and Fleet Commands.

Background: The NPS Naval Warfare Studies Institute established the MGZ RTF in 2021, designed to focus NPS education and research efforts across departments and disciplines on subjects and projects increasing the Fleet and Force's options to respond, initiate, and compete in contested maritime environments. The TF supports the development of concepts and capabilities that would enable the Naval services to compete and win below the threshold of war, whether indirectly through convincing or coercing others, or directly through intermediate force capabilities like ship-disabling technologies.

CCHT facilitates bi-monthly meetings with internal and external stakeholders to synergize initiatives and develop new efforts for collaboration. Any faculty or student interested in collaboration on this topic are welcome to participate and become a member. For more information about MGZ RTF, contact Mr. Lawrence Walzer at lmwalzer1@nps.edu.
