Greetings Faculty, Staff & Students: Scheduling for AY2022/Qtr. I is complete and viewable in Python. A copy of the schedule is now posted online at https://nps.edu/web/scheduling/class-scheduling.
The Add/Drop process can begin immediately and will end on FRI, 8 OCT. If a course is listed as “Schedule TBA by Department” please contact the Department/Instructor to setup a timeframe. The pre-registration process for AY2022/Qtr. II can begin immediately as well.
- All vaccinated students and faculty are expected to attend courses in-person.
- Any student or faculty member who is not vaccinated or can't attend in-person learning must apply for an exception (detailed application process to follow from NPS leadership)
- For complete details on mask and social distancing please refer to the NPS COVID site: https://nps.edu/web/safety/coronavirus*
Because we are still not operating at 100% capacity across the board, your current room assignments may not meet your needs. However, there are still avenues that can be pursued to maximize in-person learning.
- ALL faculty should poll their students to see who is fully vaccinated.
- Review your assignments (room ventilation status/capacity)
- Faculty who wish to teach 100% in person but have not been assigned a room that can safely accommodate these numbers should fill out the AY22Q1 Schedule Change Request Form no later than September 17th.
- Faculty who wish to teach 100% online or in hybrid mode MUST apply for an exception. An approved exception may allow the faculty to be remote, however, students will still be expected to be in the classroom. Faculty may NOT transition to online/hybrid without an exception.
We will post the AY22Q1 Course Schedule by 10 SEP. At this time any faculty who wishes to make a course change request may do so between 10 - 17 SEP.
We offer room scheduling services for events such as workshops, conferences, training sessions, and short courses, etc. Our Enterprise Event Scheduling system provides up-to-date information about campus events by publishing space availability from all departmental and administrative units.
Although academic course-related activities have scheduling priority in NPS facilities, most are available for use outside class time for campus-affiliated events, such as study groups, departmental meetings and guest speakers. The Scheduling Office coordinates usage requests to ensure facilities are being used in accordance with NPS policies and guidelines.
Space Utilization Reporting
We provide space utilization reporting to guide policy and resourcing decisions. For more information please contact our office.
NPS departments are responsible for managing their own lab and conference rooms, while adhering to NPS facility policies.

Academic Classroom Scheduling
Class scheduling at NPS is based on student demand. Every student registered in a class must be scheduled into that class, together with the assigned instructor for the class, and without any conflicted classes. The task of producing an equitable and efficient schedule every quarter is complex. It requires balancing the priorities and needs of all academic units within the context of shared university resources that are in high demand and often scarce. In developing the schedule, the following goals must be balanced:
a. Students should be able to take courses needed for graduation in their program in a timely manner.
b. Instructors should be able to obtain schedules that permit them to integrate their professional duties of teaching, research and service in a reasonable way.
c. Classes should be scheduled so as to best utilize teaching resources and classroom facilities.
