Concepts Of Quantum Information Technology With A Mechanical Analogue Demonstration

LT Shaun E. Williams, USN

Abstract: Quantum computing is an intriguing area of research, but there must be a firm understanding of its concepts before any such research may be conducted. This thesis attempts to cover quantum computing’s basic elements, and technology, through the use of a mechanical analogue demonstration. This demonstration can be utilized as teaching aid to associate the observable universe to the quantum mechanical universe. The goal of this thesis is to provide a starting point for future NPS research in the development of quantum technology, and to assist with understanding the fabrication process. Quantum computing’s vast catalog of information is difficult to capture in a single thesis; so therefore, focus will be directed at the high points of it’s history in order to create a stepping stone for future research and development at NPS.
