How Do You Analyze a Country Like North Korea?

Date: December 4, 2015 to December 4, 2015
Time: 1200-1250
Location: Glasgow 322

Mr. Stanley Underdal, a military analyst at CIA, will lead a discussion on analyzing a hard-target country using North Korea as the focus.  How do you draw conclusions on strategic national trajectories for a country that is homogenous, paranoid, and closed off from the world stage?  North Korea has repeatedly threatened its neighbors and the United States; how do you know when a threat is something more than a threat?

Mr. Underdal has more than 25 years of experience in the intelligence and policy communities, primarily following Asian military and security issues.  He served in Seoul as a Foreign Service Officer and worked in the East Asia region with the Foreign Broadcast Information Service.
