The Honorable Heidi Shyu, Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (USD(R&E)) issued the USD(R&E) Technology Vision for an Era of Competition this week. The letter identifies three categories of critical technology areas considered especially important. The categories and technology areas are:

    • Integrated Network Systems-of-Systems

    • Advanced Computing and Software
    • Human-Machine Interfaces
  • Defense-Specific Areas
    • Directed Energy
    • Hypersonics
    • Integrated Sensing and Cyber
