Labtainers Installation

The easiest way to get Labtainers is to download one of the virtual machine appliance images and run it on Virtual Box or VMWare.  We also have a QCOW2 image for use with UTM on newer Macs. The VM images are here.

If you have a Linux computer or VM, you may be able to install Labtainers on it directly from this tar file, and then run the install-labtainer.sh script.  The installation is only tested with Ubuntu 24.  This path is discouraged unless you are experienced in Linux subsystem troubleshooting.  In any event, we suggest running on a dedicated VM for security considerations.

Labtainers is supported on the Google Cloud Platform, with remote access via a browser.  See the Student Guide for details.

Labtainers includes a "headless" configuration that can be installed on server VMs and accessed via a browser.  See the description at: https://github.com/mfthomps/Labtainers/blob/master/headless-lite/README.md
