Please join me in congratulating our Summer Quarter graduates!

Message From the President:

Please join me in congratulating our Summer Quarter graduates!

On behalf of the Provost, Faculty and Staff here at the Naval Postgraduate School, we salute your achievements and want to especially thank all the family, friends, and faculty who supported you through the years here and through the last six months of working through extraordinary challenges with COVID, distance learning and area wildfires. Your resilience is inspiring.

We cannot celebrate in person, but I do want to recognize your achievements and offer you this Summer Quarter graduation webpage from our terrific communication team, and commencement video featuring remarks from the Honorable Kenneth J. Braithwaite, our 77th Secretary of the Navy, as well as comments from your peers and congratulatory shout-outs from our faculty, and current senior leadership.

Your accomplishments are especially noteworthy in these difficult times. You completed your coursework and thesis while adapting to COVID-driven changes at NPS and at home. The wildfires impacted everyone, some much more than others, but despite the adversity many of you buoyed classmates and helped wherever help was needed. I am proud of how you responded as part of our NPS community, and now as graduates, know that you will always be part of the NPS community and we are here for you.

These experiences have shaped you and made you even more prepared for your return to operational forces. You are needed!  Employ the solutions you researched here and use the knowledge you gained to effect change and make a difference. Our nation is still gripped in a great power competition that is as demanding on deployed forces aboard as it is here at home.  Throughout every inflection point in history, it was a critical discovery, or an impactful leader, that drove the military forward by leveraging education and technology for decisive advantage.

Now, it is your time. It is a time when learning matters, and you are well equipped to lead.  As NPS alumni you will be a trusted source on matters of great importance. It is not just what you know, but how you will lead in the ethical application of knowledge and military power.

You made a difference while here: at NPS, in our community and for each other in lifelong friendships. You will continue make a difference now as graduates who are ready for higher responsibility, future command and are prepared to win!

Congratulations again, and well done!

With great respect,

Ann E. Rondeau, Ed.D.
Vice Admiral, U.S. Navy (Ret.)
