2022 Summer Quarter Graduate Spotlight – Lt. Spencer Kitten, USN
The U.S. Navy’s submarine force plays a critical role in NAVPLAN 2022 efforts to build enduring warfighting advantages that strengthen our nation’s integrated deterrence. As we continue the countdown to graduation for the NPS 2022 Summer Quarter cohort, it’s time to meet Lt. Spencer Kitten, USN, a submarine officer who received the Military Operations Research Society (MORS) Stephen A. Tisdale Graduate Research Award for his applied research thesis which revisited the concept of coordinated submarine tactics – also known as “wolfpack” tactics – used frequently by the U.S. and German submarine fleets during World War II. “My approach used data farming techniques as well as intelligent experimental design to revisit submarine wolfpack tactics in the modern era,” said Kitten.
2022 Summer Quarter Graduate Spotlight – Lt. Rizky Windu Karsa, Indonesian Navy
Strengthening relationships with our allies and partners through education is fundamental to our warfighting advantage. Lt. Rizky Windu Karsa, a surface warfare officer in the Indonesian Navy is among 29 international students from 8 partner nations who will graduate alongside 270 other warrior-scholars as part of the Naval Postgraduate School’s 2022 Summer Quarter cohort. Rizky’s analysis of Indonesia’s participation with the U.S. Navy in the annual Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) bilateral exercise earned recognition earning the Outstanding Academic Achievement Award for International Students and the International Student Award for Excellence in Regional or Security Studies.
2022 Summer Quarter Graduate Spotlight – Capt. Morgan White, USMC
Meet U.S. Marine Corps Capt. Morgan White, a member of the 2022 Summer Quarter cohort who is graduating with a master’s degree in Information Systems Management, as well as an MBA with a focus in Information Systems Technology. White was the recipient of the Rear Admiral Grace Murray Hopper Information Technology Management (IT) award for the Summer Quarter, which is presented to an IT graduate who demonstrated outstanding academic performance, thesis quality, and leadership ability. Her research assessed the effects of adopting digital twins has on the enterprise architecture within the context of DON’s strategy, processes, people, technology, cyber security, and risk management.

With encouragement from a former Deputy Secretary of Defense, the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) recognized the achievements of its Summer Quarter 2022 graduating class during a ceremony at King Auditorium, Sept. 23.
The Honorable Robert O. Work, NPS alumnus and 32nd Deputy Secretary of Defense, served as the guest speaker for a commencement ceremony honoring 270 graduates, including 29 international students from eight countries. Read more...
2022 Summer Quarter Class
A total of 270 U.S. and international military officers, and DOD civilians, completed their studies this quarter. The Summer Quarter class includes 114 U.S. Navy graduates; 22 U.S. Marine Corps graduates; 7 U.S. Army graduates; 4 U.S. Coast Guard graduates; 7 U.S. Air Force graduates; 3 U.S. Naval Reserves; 87 DOD civilian graduates, and 29 international graduates representing 8 countries.
