NPS, NSAM Honor Gold Star Families at Bells Across America Ceremony
By MC1 Lewis Hunsaker
Ensign Kyle Costa, above left, reads the names of fallen service members during a Bells Across America ceremony honoring Gold Star families outside Herrmann Hall, Sept. 22. The program supports the spouses, children, parents, and siblings of fallen active duty service members.
“I would like to thank the three gold star families in attendance today. We are honored by your presence,” said Naval Support Activity Monterey Commanding Officer Capt. Kevin Bertelsen. “Naval Support Activity Monterey is here for you. You are not alone. While we cannot feel your deep pain, we share your loss.”
To commemorate the 166 service members that have fallen this year, each members name was read followed by the ringing of a bell. At the conclusion of the reading, four bells were rung in remembrance of all service members that have fallen.
Bells Across America pays tribute to fallen service members regardless of cause of death or branch of service. For more information about the Bells Across America program please contact Amanda Keesee.
