Dr. Wayne Porter Returns to NPS, Heads CORE Lab
By Javier Chagoya
Retired Navy Capt. and NPS alumnus Dr. Wayne Porter, above, is pictured in his new office at the Department of Defense Analysis' Common Operational Research Environment (CORE) Lab. Porter has taken over as CORE Lab Executive Director where he will work with students on advanced network analysis, data visualization, and strategies for irregular warfare.
"I've been thinking about integrating our analytical technologies across the board, especially with the Naval Expeditionary Warfare folks, the Maritime Interdiction Ops teams, riverine boats, as well as broader Navy and Marine Corps Intel analysts.
"They should all be using the same systems as the special warfare guys. I also believe that law enforcement agencies, federal, local, and emergency response teams can benefit from our focused data collection and analysis of the human domain," said Porter.
Porter is looking forward to contributing to further developing the students and tools that support U.S. and international field operatives with visual analytic analysis of Irregular Warfare (IW) problem sets. He also sees potential in applying Social Network Analysis (SNA) to littoral and post-disaster operations.
"There is a possible tie-in with the Littoral Operations Center, as well, as we examine social networks in and around littoral areas," said Porter. "There is also a huge SNA significance for emergency response managers in disaster areas."
