President's Student Council Signs Charter
By MC2 Michael Ehrlich
NPS Dean of Students Capt. Matthew Vandersluis, left, NPS President Retired Vice Adm. Ronald A. Route, center left, incoming PSC Chairman Lt. Colleen McDonald, center right, and outgoing PSC Chairman Lt. Aaron Steward, right, are pictured with a plaque recognizing past PSC members in Herrmann Hall, June 30. Route and members of the PSC were memorializing the signing of a new PSC Charter officially designating the PSC a federal entity.
"The difference between us and the clubs we have on base is that we will get funding and recognition, which will help extend our reach and hopefully bring more students [into the PSC]," said MacDonald.
The PSC participates in many community outreach programs including leadership and mentoring programs at local high schools, beach clean up activities, and volunteer efforts at local soup-kitchens like Dorothy's in Salinas.
"My goal as chair is to help new and current students understand the outreach we do and the leadership opportunities we offer. I want to bring awareness of what we do to our student body to get more people involved," said McDonald.
